Reflections Program

"Reflections" is a National PTA arts in education program. Its purpose is to provide all children and youth with an opportunity to experience the self-fulfillment of creative expression through the arts. The primary goal of Reflections is for all children and youth to have the opportunity to participate. Although it is a program with recognition and awards at the local, district, state and national levels, the importance of participation should be emphasized over winning. Students may submit entries in the areas of music, photography, visual arts, literature, and dance. Each year there is a different theme for the program. For the 2011-2012 school year, the theme will be "Diversity Means". Participation in the Reflections Program is open to all students in attendance at a PTA/PTSA school in good standing where the program is sponsored. Entries are advanced through PTA channels. Packets are sent out to all schools, PTA presidents, art teachers, English teachers, music teachers, and P.E. teachers at the beginning of the school year. Self Esteem Award

The Self Esteem Award is a writing contest based on a yearly theme, "What makes me feel special." The goal of the award is to help children feel good about themselves. Any student enrolled in a school whose PTA/PTSA is a unit in good standing can enter. Awards are given in the primary, intermediate, middle school, and high school categories. Entries are to be in the form of an essay, story or poem not to exceed 500 words. The judging criteria is:

1. content pertains to the theme
2. organization of content
3. neatness
4. grammar
5. spelling. 

Entries are due to the 15th District PTA office by February 1.

Hall of Fame Award

The Hall of Fame award is given to a teacher, counselor or principal who has shown outstanding support of the PTA. The winner of this award will have his/her name added to the Hall of Fame names at the Van Hoose Education Center. See the December/January issue of the 15th District PTA Newsletter for more information and for a nomination form. Send nominations to the 15th District PTA Office by February 1. The winner will be announced at the 15th District PTA Spring Conference.
